Effective policies and strict enforcement mechanisms are critical to improving road safety and transport accessibility in Cameroon. Current gaps in regulations, including lenient penalties for traffic violations and weak oversight of public transport operators, undermine efforts to ensure safety.

Policies should prioritize mandatory driver training programs, regular vehicle inspections, and the introduction of speed limits on major highways. Expanding access to road safety education in schools and communities can instill a culture of responsible road use from an early age.

Enforcement mechanisms, including deploying advanced technologies like speed cameras and automated ticketing systems, can improve compliance. Additionally, creating special traffic enforcement units within the police force can strengthen monitoring and reduce corruption.

The government must also focus on accessibility for vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, by mandating inclusive design standards for public transport and pedestrian infrastructure.
